Bio: Henry 'Hal' Chapman

Henry 'Hal' ChapmanFor me, technology has always been a source of wonder. I remember my Dad unpacking our first family computer (a Pentium 90mhz) and watching in amazement as the Windows 95 logo appeared with a satisfying ta-da. I spent hours messing around with it, finding ways for it to insult my sister at random and so forth. As time went by, computers got faster but the appeal never went away.

Skip forward to when i was 14 years old and i went on a summer school learning how to use Flash 5. I immediately took to it. While everybody was busy creating graphics and making them jump around the screen, i found myself drawn to code. Strangely nobody else seemed to appreciate the joy of successfully parsing XML for the first time. At the end of the project we had to work in teams to create a website that we would each vote on to find a winner. It was then that i realised the potential technology and design had when they worked together (especially when we where voted the clear winner).

I developed my flash skills and created a few simple games. Then I discovered that Director could do 3D and armed with gMax and Director MX i made some simple 3d games. From then on i worked my up to Java and the world of class oriented script. I moved on to Microsoft .net before discovering PHP and the world of web design.

Wilf told me about Cubicflow and whether I wanted to help out. Not really knowing what Cubicflow was, I said yes anyway. Now I'm responsible for turning Photoshop mock-ups into HTML and ideas into PHP.

I tend to focus on the technical but i have some creative talent as well, I do web and graphic design. I also enjoy messing around with my graphics tablet and I'm not averse doing a little pixel art.

I work part time at a Solicitors firm doing filing, graphic design and any other job that needs doing. I also volunteer at a local charity shop and St John Ambulance. In September I'm off to university to study Games technology and then, who knows.
